Shelbyville, Kentucky

Steven has been passionately collecting and hybridizing daylilies for over a decade in Shelbyville, Kentucky. His garden is home to approximately 1,400 registered cultivars and thousands of seedlings currently under evaluation. Specializing primarily in diploids, Steven focuses on miniature and small varieties, while also exploring unusual forms and select tetraploids. With each bloom, Steven strives to create daylilies that spark happiness and joy.

NOTE: 2027 ChDC Planning Meeting - We will have the Speaker meeting first, and then the regular business meeting afterward so that the speaker can get back on the road toward home. REMINDER: This is the Planning meeting for ChDC club meetings, events, and activities for the upcoming year(s.) Suggestions for next year's speakers and other club events are needed in order to help the club thrive with new activities!! Meeting & Festivities: 2:00pm General ChDC meeting. After the business meeting is completed, the fun of the traditional Gift Exchange will be enjoyed for those members that would like to partake (not mandatory!!) Those that would like to participate should bring a ~ $15 gift for EACH family member that wants to participate. This is always lots of fun for folks of all ages!

This is a reminder that Annual Dues are due (postmarked) by 1/31 in order to participate in the P4M Program. Annual INDIVIDUAL Membership dues are $10.00, and are the same for a FAMILY membership. An individual membership allows for 1 person to pick plants at the annual Plants for Members Distribution meeting (as long as the rest of the requirements have been met), and a family membership does the same. If more than one person in the family wants to grow plants that are distributed through the Plants for Members program, each individual must have a membership to the club (i.e. 1 member picking = 1 FAMILY membership, but 2 family members picking would require 1 INDIVIDUAL membership and 1 FAMILY (or a 2nd INDIVIDUAL) membership.)

LEWIS GINTER SPRING PLANT SALE

Lewis Ginter's spring plant sale (both Lewis Ginter and outside vendors) is Friday, Apr 30 - Sat, May 1st in the upper parking lot of the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. (Members: 9am-12pm Friday, Public: 12pm-5pm Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday.) The website recommends that you take your own wagon with you if planning to purchase a significant amount of plants.

Many companion plants are available for purchase all through the parking lot (pitcher plants, annuals and perennials, shrubs, you name it), along with daylilies for sale by RADS. There's also a special tented area of plants grown by Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Society.

Gil Manor Spring Sale & Swap
You can see just about everything at this sale and swap - animals, plants, concrete statuary, flea market, as well as great Amish/Menonite foods and goods for sale. It's a great day, but be prepared to get started very early in the morning to be able to see everything - it pretty much wraps up by 3pm, and it's huge so it takes a while to get around to everything.

The 81st Annual National ADS Convention will be held in Virginia Beach, VA from Wednesday June 9 - Saturday June 12, 2027.

There will be gardens, bus tours, food, auctions, boutiques, and and lots of other goodies!! There will be several open gardens for you to get a feel for the beautiful daylilies growing in this part of the country, all the way across the country!!!

NOTE: Current deadline for the 2027 National meeting registration without late fee is April 1, 2027. Late applications accepted until May 1st, or until sold out if that occurs earlier!! Registration is limited to 350 participants due to hotel restrictions, and it is filling up very quickly. If you are interested in going, you need to act quickly!

ChDC and RADS members will join together to tour several Richmond area gardens and then socialize over lunch. Angie is working out the details on the tour route and will update as we get the maps together. We will all meet at one garden, and then progress forward through the others as a group so that the garden owners can also enjoy the day with the group.

Plans are to meet up and try to condense down into as few vehicles as possible in order to keep the roads clear for the surrounding residences.

This will be a "tailgating hospitality" set-up, where the clubs will provide water and possible snacks (if someone wants to help with snacks for the tailgate hospitality, please contact Angie so the we can organize appropriately.) Please stay hydrated!!

RADS (RICHMOND AREA DAYLILY SOCIETY) SPRING SHOW AND SALE.

LOCATION: Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

RADS will have their spring daylily show and sale beginning at 9am at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Daylilies will be available to purchase as well as a wonderful viewing of daylilies presented in the show after judging is complete, typically around 10am.

5th Annual VA multi-club Social and Potluck Luncheon

LOCATION: TBD - Working with RADS and SVDS to determine where and when this event will be. Woodhenge Gardens has graciously responded that they will host for the 2nd time, and we will be working out the details for this!!

Put on your walking shoes and enjoy the day with members from all around the state of Virginia, and possibly some from other states as well!

TIME: 12:00PM for plant intake. (The building will open at 11:30am for set-up and preparation for plant intake.) Members are encouraged to bring their club plants and any plants that they are donating for the auction in for registration and sorting between 12:00pm - 12:45pm. The business meeting and auction will begin around 2pm, give or take a bit of time depending on what we are still trying to get entered into the system.

LILYHEMMER!!

October 14-16 is the Region 3 Fall Meeting - Wyndham Garden in York PA. The Lilyhemmer committee is making plans for the greatest meeting ever. It is a fun fall weekend getaway with a full daylily program, including many speakers, meals, games, auctions, and hospitality. Finish the season with a bang!

Official events are scheduled noon to noon, October 14-16, 2027. Many attendees arrive early on Thursday and enjoy the informal preview, with scheduled activities Friday and Saturday.

Reward for new attendees:
- Reduced attendance fee!!
- Typically, in order to encourage new attendees, they are offered a nice daylily plant, minimum value of $35, to each new attendee. And there are lots of other prizes.

Garden host volunteers for the Club Summer Open Gardens are always appreciated, as well as suggestions for activities and events for the members!

Itinerary is scheduled for a group meeting at Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and a luncheon (pay as you go) at a nearby restaurant/cafe. There is a daylily garden here that is maintained by the Tidewater Daylily Society, and beautiful Spring blooming trees and flowers to view. We will meet as a group fairly early to view the daylily garden (in order to beat the heat), and then everyone can meander around at their own pace. We will plan to meet up at the cafeteria again as a group around noon.
